Life Without Limitations
Laird Murfey was born March 10, 2009. During the delivery, his mother Melissa’s uterus ruptured, and Laird spent 40 minutes without oxygen. He was diagnosed with Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) at birth. Laird spent the next thirty days in the NICU recovering. At 3 years old, Laird was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. But his story does not end there.
When life tried to knock Laird down, this 11-year-old with cerebral palsy chose to rise and make a difference. In the 8 years since his diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, Laird has continued to push boundaries and achieve remarkable things as a writer, musician, athlete, and cook—despite the fact that his condition prevents him from walking or speaking without assistance.
Laird is unable to speak using his voice, but he makes himself heard by using a Tobii device, and it is his voice that serves as an inspiration to everyone he meets.
Time to Give Back
He is an active advocate for other children with traumatic brain injuries and works directly with The Brain Possible as a voice of hope for families everywhere.
Laird’s short video was made with the contribution of some amazing people. We now are raising money to produce a full length documentary. The film will feature Laird’s music and multiple families on their journey raising exceptional children.
